OUR VISION FOR THE MAJIAYAO MUSEUM FOLLOWS A DISTRIBUTED PAVILION STRATEGY IN WHICH VARIOUS EXCAVATION SITES AND THE EXPLORATION OF THE LANDSCAPE ARE A PART OF THE MUSEUM EXPERIENCE. IN ADDITION TO THE DISPLAY OF POTTERY, WE PROPOSE ADDITIONAL PROGRAMS SUCH AS POTTERY WORKSHOPS, ARCHAEOLOGICAL RESEARCH SPACES, RESIDENCES FOR RESEARCHERS, AND LOCAL MARKETS. AS SUCH, OUR MUSEUM OFFERS MORE THAN JUST A ONCE IN A LIFETIME EXPERIENCE, BUT MONTHLY, WEEKLY, OR EVEN DAILY EXPERIENCES ACROSS THE MUSEUM, OBSERVATORY, AND PAVILION SITES. THE SCATTERED PAVILIONS ARE DESIGNED AS A FLEXIBLE SYSTEM, WHERE A SIMPLE BASE STRUCTURE CAN SUPPORT A MULTITUDE OF POTENTIAL PROGRAMS. THE OBSERVATION SITE IS AN EXTENSION OF THIS PAVILION SYSTEM, WHERE A PATH STRINGS TOGETHER A SERIES OF ROOMS. AND, THE MUSEUM IS AN EXTENSION OF THE CONCEPTS OF LANDSCAPE INTEGRATION, AND LOCAL VERNACULAR FORM AND MATERIAL ON THE LARGER SITE BUT APPLIED TO A PERMANENT SITE, WHICH IS LOCATED ADJACENT TO BOTH RESIDENTIAL AND LIGHT INDUSTRIAL AND AGRICULTURAL CONTEXT. OUR VISION FOR THE MAJIAYAO MUSEUM IS A REIMAGINATION OF THE TYPICAL CENTRALIZED, MONUMENTAL MUSEUM.

SITE: MAJIAYAO RUINS, LINTAO COUNTY, GANSU PROVINCE OF CHINA
